  • Google Play Store has introduced safety measures to protect user data.
  • The tech giant is working on giving users control of applications through permissionless features.

Google has announced the coming of a new data safety section in the Play Store. The section is designed to show users more details about data being collected by apps and how it is being used.

This noteworthy development undertaken by the tech giant is aimed at boosting privacy and transparency in the Play Store. It will also help ensure that users have complete control over their data.

It would be recalled that Apple Store rolled out a similar privacy label in late 2020 to ensure that users have more privacy and their data stays safe.

The data safety section on Google Play Store will allow users to request that all their data be deleted on any app.

It also allows you to know if data requested is needed for the app to function optimally, so you can decide not to share.

Consequently, you can obtain information on the data safety section on the play store from today.

Developers who have apps on Google Play Store will be required to provide a data safety section for all apps explaining the following:

  • What kind of  data the app collects and stores.
  • The purpose of the data collected.
  • If and how data collected is shared with third parties.
  • How the information obtained impacts privacy and security.
  • If an app is deemed  to be following Google Play’s Families Policy put in place to protect children.
  • Apps’ safety practices.
  • Whether the app’s security practices have been validated against a global security standard such as MASVS (Mobile Application Security Verification Standard).

App developers have till July 20 to provide the above information on the safety section or risk being kicked out.
