Amazon Set to Shutdown Alexa Internet Tracker

Amazon is set to shut down Alexa Internet, its internet tracking service that shares a name with its voice assistant.

The platform offers web traffic tracking and ranked over 30 million websites worldwide, based on popularity.

It was able to do this with software that was installed on some browsers and through users that decided to install the Alexa rank software on their computers.

Although Alexa’s ranking wasn’t 100% reliable, it served as a great way for website owners to gauge the popularity of their platforms.

Amazon disclosed that although the service was going to be retired from May, users will no longer be able to subscribe from December 8th.

No official information was divulged about the company’s decision to retire the internet ranking service.

Alexa internet rank was founded as an independent company in 1996 before it was acquired by Amazon 3 years later for $250 million in stock.
