WhatsApp Launches Cryptocurrency Payment With Novi

• WhatsApp has launched a new feature that will allow users in re the United States to send and receive cryptocurrency

• The feature which is powered by Novi will initiate the use of Meta’s digital wallet which was launched in October

• The payment will be made using Pax Dollars (USDP), a digital currency that is pegged to the value of the dollar

Meta’s WhatsApp has announced that users can now send and receive money on the instant messaging platform.

The latest feature will first be tested on a pilot program that will be available to a limited section of the United States’ population.

Meta’s has been working on a wallet app for months and it is set to roll out first on the messaging platform with over 2 billion users.

The cryptocurrency feature is powered by Novi, Meta’s digital wallet that was launched as a pilot in October.

Novi’s website notes that sending a payment on WhatsApp will be as easy as sending any other attachment on the messaging platform.

The feature can be accessed on Android by clicking on the paper clip icon and iOS by clicking on the + icon.

Novi notes that users will not be charged for sending, receiving, or withdrawing money from their wallets. There is also no limit to how often payments can be sent.

Although Novi’s pilot was available to people in the US and Guatemala, WABetaInfo has disclosed that the payment functionality will only be available to US users for now.

The payment functionality will also not affect WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption used to secure conversations.
