Football legend Lionel Messi is facing a major financial setback after he was ordered to demolish his £26m hotel in Barcelona.
The 7-time Ballon d’Or winner’s celebration of his latest accolade has been cut short by news of the impending demolition of the four-star hotel.
El Confidential reported that the 77-room hotel, known as ‘MiM Sitges’ does not reach the required standard of buildings in Barcelona.
The hotel’s balconies reportedly extend too far outward and the building could be at risk of collapse if they are adjusted.
The report also states that the hotel’s fire emergency plan also failed to meet the correct standards of the city.
The former Barcelona star bought the hotel in 2017 from a businessman named Francisco Sánchez for more than £30 million.

When Messi purchased the building, he was reportedly not aware that it had been marked for demolition by authorities.
