The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou has announced that he plans to get half of his UFC 270 purse in Bitcoin.

The battle tagged “UFC 270: Ngannou vs. Gane” will debut on Saturday, January 22, 2022, as the ‘Predator’ Ngannou goes up against Ciryl Gane.

The Heavyweight Champion from Cameroon will be looking to defend his title at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

Ngannou joins a list of athletes such as Russell Okung, Odell Beckham Jr, and Aaron Rodgers who have chosen to receive their salary in Bitcoin.

The fighter’s decision is in line with other statements where he has shown support for the flagship cryptocurrency.

A portion of his recent statement announcing the payment plan can be seen below:

I believe bitcoin can empower people everywhere. So I’m excited to partner [with] Cash App to take half my UFC 270 purse in bitcoin.

In addition to receiving his payout in Bitcoin, Francis Ngannou disclosed that he was going to give away $300K worth of bitcoin to fans.

He simply asked them to drop their Cash App name tags and attach the hashtag “#paidinbitcoin.” to their tweets.
