A Zambian Woman Once Sued Her Boyfriend for Refusing to Marry Her After Dating For 8 Years

• A Zambian woman Gertrude Ngoma once sued her boyfriend for failing to marry her after they had dated for 8 years

• Ngoma sued Herbert Salaliki her boyfriend and the father of her child claiming that he had promised to marry her

• Ngoma demanded that the court compelled her baby daddy to disclose the plan he has for them

In December 2020, a Zambian woman sued her boyfriend to court for not proposing to her after 8 years of dating.

Gertrude Ngoma, 26 who hails from Ndola Zambia had been a relationship with Herbert Salaliki, 28, for 8 years.

According to Zambian news site Mwebantu, the couple had a child together and Salaliki had made a promise to marry Ngoma.

After failing to do so in their 8-year relationship, Ngoma took legal action against her boyfriend and baby daddy.

The disgruntled girlfriend told the court that she was tired of waiting for her boyfriend to make the move and she demanded that he revealed his plans about their future.

The Zambian woman also claimed that she doubts his loyalty since he was caught texting another woman.

Salaliki claimed that he was interested in marrying his baby mama but he didn’t have enough money to do so.

Despite Salaliki paying an appreciation fee to the family of his girlfriend to indicate interest in marriage, he never took her in as his wife.

Salaliki also claimed that his baby mama was not made his wife because she refused to pay attention to him.

The presiding judge, Judge Evelyn Nalwize ruled that authorities can do little to intervene and urged the couple to settle their issue out of court.

Breach of Promise

This is a law tort that allowed men and women to sue for compensation when a partner promises to marry and fails.

Some countries allow woman to sue for the future incoe of their partners I.e er estimated net worth if the man had gone ahead with the marriage.
