Unknown Gunmen Kill Chike Akunyili, Husband to ex-DG of NAFDAC

• Reports show that Mr. Akunyili was killed in the late hours of Tuesday following an attack on his car

• The incident happened at Umuoji in Anambra while the medical doctor was on his way from Onitsha

Unknown gunmen have killed Dr. Chike Akunyili who happens to be the husband of late Prof Dora Akunyili the former NAFDAC DG and former Minister of Information.

Dr. Akunyili who is a medical doctor was killed on Tuesday at Eke Nkpor in Umuoji Anambra state while he was returning from Onitsha.

According to reports, the deceased was killed alongside his driver and escorts following an attack on his car.

Reports reveal that Chike Akunyili had earlier attended a lecture at Sharon Hall, All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha, an event that was organized by the University of Nigeria Nsukka Alumni Association (UNAA).

The event was orchestrated in honor of his wife and the deceased spoke glowingly about her.

Also in attendance was his son Obum, both two left the venue in separate vehicles before the tragic incident occurred.

The family is yet to confirm the death of Akunyili and an official statement is yet to be released.

Before his death, Dr. Akunyili managed St Leo Hospital, one of the biggest medical facilities in Enugu.

He graduated with a first-class degree and spent the better part of his career working as a medical doctor in Nigeria.
