At least eight people are feared dead following an altercation between the members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN (known as Shi’ites), and some men in military uniform.
The incident occurred while the Shi’ites were taking the annual Arbaeen trek at the Gwarimpa district of Abuja.
According to Vanguard, the sect members were attacked around 10 am at the tricycle park on Tuesday.
Residents claimed that the armed men came in security patrol vehicles without any prior announcements.
Details of the attack are still very unclear but eyewitnesses claimed that about 8 people were killed by the gunmen.
The Secretary of IMN’s Academic Forum, Abdullahi Musa as also confirmed the shocking incident but failed to disclose details of casualties.

Arbaeen means fortieth” in Arabic and this day marks the fortieth day from the date of the Tragedy of Karbala.
The Arbaeen Walk is very popular among Muslims worldwide and millions of them partake in this epic journey every year.
