This comes after FG hired the services of Air Peace and Max Air to get the evacuees back to Nigeria
The first batch of Nigerian evacuees have arrived at the Nnamdi Azikwe Airport in Abuja from Bucharest, Romania. Their arrival was disclosed by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) on Friday morning, via the commission’s official Twitter account.
The statement released by the government agency on Twitter confirmed that the evacuees arrived at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport at 7:10 am on Friday.
The news follows an earlier announcement by NIDCOM that Nigerians who escaped the Ukraine invasion were about to be evacuated from Bucharest.
It will be recalled that the Federal Government had earlier ordered the services of indigenous airlines, Air Peace and Max Air to transport Nigerians who are stranded after escaping Ukraine to neighbouring countries.
Reacting to the safe arrival of the evacuees, the Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri said:
“To God be the glory Max Air Evacuation flight VM602 from Bucharest touched down in Abuja.”
Meanwhile, the government has noted that only those who have registered online and have been documented will be eligible for evacuation. Online registration has been made a mandatory requirement for the exercise and evacuees have been urged to register.
