The Federal Government has announced that it will begin the evacuation of Nigerians who have safely crossed the border from Ukraine into neighbouring countries with indigenous airlines, Air Peace and Max Air.
The evacuation process was announced by Nigerian Foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama in a statement that was released by the media aide to the President, Tolu Ogunlesi.
In the statement, the minister announced that those who are able to make it out of Ukraine will be evacuated, starting this week.

According to the minister’s statement that Ogunlesi shared, there are about 8,000 Nigerians in Ukraine and around 5,600 of them are students. The disclosure also states that about 1,000 Nigerians have been able to make it across the border into Romania. Meanwhile, those who have crossed into Poland and Hungary are around 150.
The government spokesman also noted that not every Nigerian in Ukraine may want to be evacuated, and the government will only be transporting those who want to leave. The citizens will however need to make it to any of the neighbouring countries before they can be evacuated.
