
Twitter Ban: ECOWAS Court Stops FG From Arresting Twitter Users

The ruling comes after a lawsuit filed against FG by Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP)
The ECOWAS Court of Justice in Abuja has today ruled against the Federal Government and President Buhari in the ongoing Twitter saga.

The ruling will restrain the FG from imposing sanctions, harassing or persecuting individuals and organizations that use Twitter.
The ruling also prevents the FG from Twitter and other social media companies a well as telecommunications broadcast station.

The ruling comes aback a lawsuit that was filed by Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) and 176 other Nigerians following FG’s suspension of Twitter.
The government also threatened to persecute individuals who continued to use the application after the ban.
The lawsuit accused FG of repressing human rights and limiting freedom of expression.

It’s been 3 weeks since the federal government banned the use of Twitter in Nigeria after the platform deleted a tweet from President Muhammadu Buhari and suspended his account.
