The Lagos state government has announced the closure of Third Mainland bridge for 24 hours

The bridge will be shut down from Friday midnight to Saturday midnight, February 26th-27th to allow contractors to move out their equipment.

The closure of the bridge was announced on Wednesday in a statement by Frederic Oladeinde, Lagos State’s Commissioner of Transportation.

Drivers from Alapere, Ogudu, and Gbagada have been advised by the commissioner to use alternative routes like Ikorodu road and Yaba.


Motorists from Lagos island and Yaba who are headed for Iyana Oworoshoki have been advised by the Commissioner to use the Herbert Macaulay Way and Jibowu roads.

Mr. Oladeinde also assured people that traffic management personnel will be available to manage traffic challenges.


The commissioner finally thanked Lagosians for their cooperation and patience during the reconstruction period. He assured everyone that the bridge is now safe to use.

Third mainland bridge had been shut down severally since last year to provide the government the opportunity to carry out the replacement of the 12 expansion joints of the bridge.
