Shekau Finally Killed as ISWAP Attacks Sambisa Forest
An unconfirmed source reported that, an armed group suspected to be the members of Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) killed Abubakar Shekau, the leader of the Jama’at Ahl as-Sunnah Lid Da’ Wah Wa’l-Jihad (JAS) popularly known as Boko Haram.
He was killed during a ferocious battle in their hideout inside Sambisa forest.
Sambisa forest shares local border with some Local Government Areas (LGA’s) in Borno state like Hawul, Biu, Bama, Konduga, Gwoza Askira Uba alongside some parts of Goniri, Gujiba and Buni Yadi in Yobe state and Madagali in Adamawa state.
Some other sources reported that, about hundreds of ISWAP fighters invaded Sambisa forest with big gun trucks searching for Shekau (Boko Haram leader).
It was reported that the ISWAP group didn’t directly kill Shekau. He committed suicide by blowing himself up when the ISWAP group tried capturing him alive during a fierce gun duel.
However, there isn’t any official statement confirming the death of Shekau (the most wanted terrorist leader). Several people have been celebrating his death on different social media platforms on Thursday morning.
Based on a security report, an unconfirmed source stated that Abubakar Shekau (Boko Haram leader) was killed and dethroned by ISWAP (a splinter rival group), and they are currently in charge of sambisa forest.

With these recent developments, ISWAP are more funded and well-equipped than the Boko Haram group or JAS. So it likely they change their mode of operation, and some regular attacks may occur in Bama, Konduga, Gwoza, Biu LGA’S and some part of Adamawa.
“It’s vital that all humanitarians groups around those axis should always be security conscious and be at alert.”
