
Repentant Bandits Tricked Us, Collected Money For Weapons- Niger State Governor

-The state government will no longer offer cash incentives to bandits for repentance
The governor of Niger State, Abubakar Bello has disclosed that his administration was deceived by bandits.

Bello claimed in a meeting with a vigilante group at Mariga LGA, that the bandits pretended to repent just so they can get money for weapons.

According to a statement by the chief press secretary, Mary Noel-Berje the government will no longer offer money to repentant bandits but rather a source of Livelihood.
The government also promised to increase the backing of Vigilantes, Police, and other security agencies in the war against banditry.

The government is prepared to provide weapons for vigilantes to assist them in curbing banditry.
Bello also added that the government will not disband vigilante groups when banditry is over. He promised to make them the community security operatives.
Banditry has been on the rise in many parts of northern Nigeria. The criminals are responsible for the deaths of many.

The rate of abduction in northern states has also drastically increased, with schoolchildren being the major target.
