Nigeria has a new chief of army staff following the death of Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru on Friday.

President Muhammadu Buhari today appointed Major-General Farouk Yahaya as the country’s new chief of army staff.

The news was disclosed in a statement signed by the military spokesperson, Brigadier-General Onyema Nwachukwu on Thursday.
Before this official appointment, Major-General Farouk Yahaya was the General Officer Commanding 1 Division.
He was also left his role as the Theatre Commander of the Counter-terrorism Counter Insurgency military for his new role.

President Buhari had paid tribute to the 11 officers who died in a military aircraft crash.
He described the officers as heroes and he hailed them for their sacrifice for the country.

The new chief of army staff will have his hands full following this appointment with the country insurgency and banditry in many areas.
