Just 7 months into her role as the leader of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Ngozi Okonjo Iweala has threatened to quit.
The WTO DG is said to be growing frustrated about critical issues in the organization, according to five trade officials
Okonjo-Iweala has severally told staff that she could walk away from the job if changes are not made.
Being that she has almost 4 years to go in her role as the Chief of the institution, her exit could cause an existential crisis.
There are some fears that lead governments will begin to believe that WTO is not a credible forum for handling shared challenges.

Some Geneva trade officials told Bloomberg that they believe that Okonjo-Iweala could be set to run for the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria where she previously served as the Minister of Finance.
She was contacted by Bloomberg and although she failed to comment about quitting the WTO, she denied reports of contesting in the presidential election
