National Grid Collapse

In a recently released statement, the government claimed that several major cities were experiencing a blackout this weekend due to a system collapse that occurred at 6:30 pm on Friday.

The statement came from the office of the Honourable Minister of the Ministry of Power and was signed by Isa Sanusi, the Minister’s SA on Media.

In the report, the ministry assured Nigerians that the government was working to ensure that Nigeria’s operational capacity with electricity distribution is improved.

“We wish to notify the general public of the incidence of a system collapse which occurred at 18:30 hrs on April 8, 2022, resulting in power outages in many parts of the country.”

Meanwhile, the ministry also released another statement in which the national grid collapse was blamed on vandalism.

The statement reads:

“The immediate cause of national blackout (system collapse) was an act of vandalism on a transmission tower on the Odukpani—Ikot Ekpene 330kV double circuit transmission line thus resulting in a sudden loss of about 400MW of generation.”
