President Muhammadu Buhari will, on Thursday, address the country at the occasion of the country’s 60th Independence Day celebration at the Eagles Square, Abuja on Thursday, October 1, 2020.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, in a statement said; “The live address would kick off after the anniversary parade as part of activities commissioned for the event.” The president would be speaking to the people after the Anniversary Parade at 10am.
This new development is a break from the norm where a presidential live broadcast is delivered from the state house on the morning of October 1.

According to the statement, Mr. Adesina disclosed that the address will be broadcast live by major television and radio stations especially the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN).
It could be recalled that exactly 10 years ago, during the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, a twin car bomb exploded near the Eagles Square, venue of Nigeria’s 50th Anniversary Celebration, leaving 10 dead, which the Movement for The Emancipation of The People of Niger Delta (MEND), a militant group in the Niger Delta Region, took responsibility for.
