Plans of school resumption nationwide seem to be on hold after the Federal government revealed that it is unconvinced about the prospect of resuming academic activities.
This information was communicated by the minister of state for education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba on Thursday, September 10. This was at a meeting of the Presidential Task Force for COVID that was held in Abuja.
The minister revealed that the federal government did not believe that schools were equipped to manage the virus while carrying out other activities. He also revealed that further evaluation will be carried out in the coming weeks to access the situation.
Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba stated that experts agreed that school was a viable environment for the transmission of the virus, which impacted the federal government’s decision.
On the other hand, the Lagos state government seems to be going ahead with its plan for school resumption. The special adviser to the Governor, Tokunbo Wahab declared that phased reopening of higher institutions is in works. The resumption is going to be starting with final-year students according to Channels TV.
It was disclosed that students who had been receiving lectures online will be welcomed back to school for final revisions. After which they will proceed to write examinations and conclude their projects before the resumption of others.
