There has been an explosion in Kano State. Although details around the incident remain sketchy, media reports revealed that it occurred on Aba Road in the Sabon Gari area. Several people have been left injured by the explosion and many are also feared to have died.

Videos on social media show that the explosion affected some buildings and injured people around, including pupils from a primary school. From the videos being circulated, at least one corpse was seen on the floor.

Right after the blast, a crowd gathered around the affected buildings, with many trying to rescue the injured, and others trapped under the debris. Many school children were also seen being evacuated from surrounding buildings. 

There was much speculation on social media about the cause of the explosion. While some claimed that it was triggered by a bomb, others say that a gas leak was responsible.

The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Sama’ila Dikko, has come out to clarify that the blast was as a result of a gas explosion in the area.
