An official report from the Airline has disclosed that the fire was caused by the impact of the brakes during an aborted takeoff.
No less than 50 passengers who were onboard a Dana Air Plane had to be rescued on Monday evening. Multiple reports claim that tyres of the plane caught fire just as it was about to take off from Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The incident was confirmed by the Spokesperson for Dana Airlines, Kingsley Ezenwa, in a statement that was published on Tuesday. The statement revealed that no lives were lost during the accident.
Ezenwa narrated that the airplane, with registration number 5N JOY, was about to leave Port Harcourt for Lagos when the incident occurred. He disclosed that the pilot had noticed something unusual before takeoff and questioned the Air Traffic Control, before embarking on a ramp return.
Ezenwa further claimed that the fire was due to a spark off while the aircraft aborted takeoff and tried to repark. He shared that the affected Dana Air Plane has since been grounded and is being examined by the Airline’s maintenance team.
