The Board revealed that Ebun had warned them about the impending piece but there were disappointed with his responses to previous employees on Twitter
The Board of Directors at Bento Africa has instructed that the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Ebunoluwa Okunbanjo take some “time off” and be excluded from all people-related decisions at this time.
The decision was confirmed in a briefing that was published by the company on Wednesday and shared on Twitter.
This comes only a few days after a Tech Cabal article exposed bosses for their toxic workplace culture, with a story about Ebun.
In the damning report from Tech Cabal, Ebun was accused of verbal abuse and using curse words on employees. Other accusations against the CEO included failure to grant leave and termination of appointment without due process (deactivating workers’ emails and slack accounts).
The company disclosed that Ebunoluwa Okunbajo had told them to expect the published allegations but they were disappointed with his response on Twitter.

A part of the briefing reads:
“As he is mandated to, Ebun informed the Board of Directors of Bento last Thursday that he had been asked to comment on an article about the workplace culture at Bento and that he expected that something of material impact will soon be published. As professional Investors and Operators, we were aghast at the defensive and escalatory first tweets of Ebun on the matter, which we quickly moved against. Our responsibility and charter is to the Company, not the founders we invest in.”
The Bento Africa board also disclosed that Chidozie will now lead the company, along with other “country managers and functional heads”. It also promised to create an enabling environment by ensuring Bento becomes psychologically safe for employees.
