ASUU Threatens To Go On Another Strike

  • The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to embark on another strike over unpaid salaries of members
  • The union has revealed that 13 months salaries of over 1000 members are currently owed
  • Chairman of the University of Jos Chapter of ASUU, Dr Lazarus Maigoro has urged President Buhari to intervene to prevent them from taking drastic measures

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to embark on a fresh strike over the failure of the government to pay 13 months salaries of over 1000 members.

The latest strike threat is coming 6 months after the union called off its previous strike.

The strike which lasted 9 months was embarked on over a dispute with the government about University funding and the use of Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information (IPPIS).

The impending strike account was disclosed in a statement released on Saturday by Chairman, University of Jos Chapter of ASUU, Dr Lazarus Maigoro.

Dr Maigoro also disclosed that the government had held back the checks of the affected Union members.

He also accused Accountant General of Federation (AGF), Ahmed Idris of denying lectures their salaries despite an agreement that was reached with the government that union members will not be victimized.

According to Maigoro the AGF has continued to violate the terms of the agreement that was reached with FG by giving fake reasons like incorrect Bank verification numbers and wrongly spelt names.

The ASUU chairman has called on President Buhari to intervene to prevent the union from taking drastic decisions.
