Video sharing platform TikTok has become the latest social media platform to issue a ban on Russian State Media. The ban will restrict government media accounts on its platform as Russia continues its invasion of Ukraine.
The ban was issued by the trendy social media platform after worldwide pressure for all social media companies to restrict Russia’s propaganda and prevent any information that the Russian media may release regarding the war in Ukraine.
According to The Wall Street Journal, a spokesperson for TikTok confirmed that the social media company has been in talks with European Union and has restricted access to the Russian government media.

National Public Radio also confirmed that the video-sharing platform was going to block two Russian media outlets, Russia Today and Sputnik in the EU. The effect of this ban is that people using these platforms in countries under European Union will not have access to these media outlets.
In addition to TikTok, Microsoft has also disclosed that it has banned Russian media in Europe. The company has disclosed that it will remove RT and Sputnik content from its App store and websites.
