SUNNY ON SUNDAY:
In commemorating the 70th birthday ceremony of Juju music icon, King Sunny Ade, an auction was held recently at Temple Balmoral Marquee, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
King Sunny Ade’s famous guitars which was masterfully painted by an award-winning artist, Victor Ehikhamenor was put on a bid. This master-piece was a collector’s item and up to the day of auctioning , it had been receiving anonymous bids.
BUYER’S IDENTITY
The buyer of the guitar which was auctioned by Dr. Jogun Onabanjo, a certified Auctioneer and Chief Executive of Onabanjo & Onabanjo & Co, was revealed to be a Nigerian billionaire Tunde Folawiyo and son of late businessman, Wahab Folawiyo. According to Forbes, Tunde, the managing director of Yinka Folawiyo Group, has an estimated net worth of $650 million.
THE GUITAR
Dr. Onabanjo placed the guitar on bid from N9million and a very competitive bid followed. It closed at a whooping sum of N52.1million. While the bid was in progress, asking price for the guitar doubled to N17million under two minutes. It then exceeded the N50million benchmark in 15 minutes.
Nevertheless, United Auction House moderated one of King Sunny Ade’s guitar for Fifty Two Million Naira at his ‘Sunny On Sunday’ concert as he turned 70.
