Being a housewife may be termed a full-time job and could attract some form of compensation in Kenya

A Kenyan High Court judge, Teresia Matheka ruled this while presiding over a matrimonial property dispute

Matheka also likened housewives carrying a pregnancy for 9 months to a job that deserves remuneration
Imagine getting paid to be a full-time housewife, wouldn’t that be an amazing job? You just might be able to secure a job like that if you live in Kenya.
This is after a Kenyan high court judge Teresia Matheka declared being a housewife a full-time job while presiding over a matrimonial property dispute.
While speaking during the marriage dispute, Matheka claimed that it was unjust for courts to rule that housewives don’t contribute to a marriage financially.
The complaint, in this case, was a woman who wanted the court to sell their family’s property and split the money between her and her husband.
Matheka argued that raising children, cooking, and cleaning are full-time jobs that families often pay people to do.
“Raising children is a full-time job that families pay a person to do. Cooking and cleaning as well. Hence, for a woman in employment who has to balance childbearing and rearing this contribution must be considered.”
The judge ruled that the property be sold and the proceeds distributed equally between the spouses or one party pays half the value to secure the entire property.

Also, Matheka urged other judges to consider 9 months of pregnancy when presiding over cases of matrimonial disputes.
She opined that housewives carrying pregnancies are similar to working as surrogate mothers.
