Maryam Sanda, daughter of embattled former Aso Savings Bank boss, Hajia Maimuna Aliyu, who allegedly murdered her husband, Bilyaminu Bello, son of a former chairman of PDP, has been remanded in prison custody. Murder of ex-PDP Chairman’s son.
Maryam was arraigned on Friday morning for offenses bordering on culpable homicide. The suspect, who was arraigned before an FCT high court on a two-count charge, had reportedly stabbed her her husband to death over infidelity. Sanda was said to have launched the attack on her husband over a text message on his phone. She allegedly stabbed her husband in the neck and chest while he slept in the bedroom of their home in Maitama, Abuja, and rushed him to hospital where he gave up the ghost. See full gist HERE.

The suspect, who could not control her emotions upon arrival at the court, was still holding her six-month-old baby. Upon her arrival in court, the accused person covered her face with a scarf to prevent being photographed by the media.
Before the commencement of the court hearing, she was seen reading from the Quran she was holding. She pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the two count charges of homicide read to her.
Maryam’s lawyer, Hussein Musa had asked the court to let the defendant be in police custody, arguing that she is still a nursing mother and would be improper to be remanded in prison custody.
However, presiding judge, Yusuf Halilu Maryam, objected to the counsel’s suggestion and ruled that she be kept in Suleja prison. The presiding judge adjourned the matter to December 7th for mention.
