Nigerian-American rapper, Wale has teamed up with loyal Nigerians to drag a troll to the mud.
The ‘Dig Dug’ crooner got into a very ‘messy social fight’ with music critic, Anthony Fontano.
This came after the Fontano accused him (Wale) of adopting Caribbean sound instead of rapping.
Fontano posted a screenshot of Wale’s latest album Shine.
He noted that Wale is a culture vulture capitalising on the Caribbean sound.
And Wale did not take that criticism lightly.
Wale invited his Nigerian fans to get into the fight. ‘I hope a million Nigerian kids spam him all day,’ he wrote.
See the entire drama below…
Thee Anthony Fantano @theneedledrop:
“And here we have one of the ugliest attempts at capitalizing on the Caribbean craze.”
Wale, who wasn’t pleased with the comment responded:
Wale @Wale:
“Oloshi . Ain’t nothin u can do to stop this Naija wave.. so stay home and be mad when the fine girls come to the show to hear that song.
“Ode.”
Fontano insisted by sharing a video of himself in which he tried to justify his criticism.
He noted that modern day Afrobeat is a ménage of dancehall, reggae and Nigerian famous beat.

And since the rapper also featured artistes who had admitted Caribbean influence in their works, it is appropriate to say that Wale is also leeching on that influence.
This led to more intense clapback from the already offended rapper who invited his Nigerian fans to get into the fight.
Wale tweeted again:
“I hope a million Nigerian kids spam him all day.
“I’m offended but I can’t stop laughing tho.
“Like my stomach hurts right now.
“This Nigga knows nothing about US.”

Well, his response invited trolls and critics.
And guess who joined in on the fight?
See below…
Nick Arguelles @Nick_Argue:
“When you don’t know what afrobeats are or that @Wale is Nigerian so you start reaching to slander him.”

The beef got so tense it caught the attention of rapper, Vince Staples who chimed in.
Staples asked the two acts to give the legitimacy it deserves:
Vince Staples @vincestaples:
“Anthony Fantano and Wale need to squabble up.”
Popular Nigerian On Air Personality, OAP, Toolz lined up on the queue to troll.
Toolz O.D @ToolzO:
“@Wale sorry jare, I’m late to the party…who we fighting??? I’m ready!!”
Wale responded:
@Wale:
“Some foolish idiot.
“But he’s only making it more known he knows nothing about it culture with every word he types.
“God forbid a nigerian make naija music wit @wizkidayo one of the most successful nigerian artist on the planet .@theneedledrop played yaself.

“The creator of Afro beat .. olufemi tunde Tope dayo folake akinbayo.
Rapper Wale slams music critic over Caribbean sound
“Vince McMahon .. u know what happens when u get physical wit ppl like him.
“Imagine him telling u about a genre you literally grew up in.

Obviously Wale insisted that Afrobeat remains the Nigerian heritage.

It is still the genre he grew up to love even if new acts like Wizkid fuses new influences into the old sound.
It is still Afrobeat!!!
Please, where is the troll Thee Anthony Fantano @theneedledrop? How market? Lol.
