Ace Nigerian rapper M.I Abaga has revealed how popular singer, Wizkid aka Starboy rejected deals worth millions from members of People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, during elections. MI reveals how Wizkid rejected millions from PDP/APC.
In a recent interview with Osagie Alonge on the #LooseTalkPodcast on Pulse Tv, the Jos born rap superstar said Wizkid rejected deals worth millions in what he described as stupid money to remain neutral for the election and not sell his vote and support to APC or the PDP.

Here’s what MI said: “I sat down with Wizkid and Wizkid didn’t take the deal, I sat down with Olamide, sat down with a lot of artistes..
“Someone like Wizkid, sorry I am putting people’s business out there, someone like Wizkid was offered stupid money and Wizkid said no. Wizkid said I am not going to go either side am just going to stay neutral,” he added.

Indeed, this is one attribute most musicians hardly posses. Who would reject huge wads of cash from politicians these days when Nigerian musicians are desperately looking for means of making more money and staying relevant?
No doubt, the Nigerian music industry has made millionaires out of several ‘studio rats’, and there are millions of others out there waiting to get their own break “The bad news is that not all dreams come true, so in order to be on top of their game, most of them would jump at such an offer from politicians.
Forget that saying of the sky being wide enough for all birds to fly, the Nigerian music industry is a dog-eat-dog world.

It is very savage, demanding, bitchy, unforgiving and unappreciative. Folks really go hell to breathe easy. This is more so because there is an inherent lack of structure which makes it difficult for record labels to thrive, money comes in because with it, one can stay relevant and keep soaring whether the talent is there or not. Lol.
Over time, we’ve gotten acquainted with some of the desperate things Nigerian artistes have to do to get to the pinnacle of their careers, such as making friends with top politicians, having sugar mummies here and there in their desperate attempt to embrace the klieg lights and paparazzi.
Anyway, thumbs up to Wizkid who said no to money and not sell his votes. We do hope others can borrow a leaf from him…
