Nigerian singer, born Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, better known by his stage name, Skales, says he can’t believe he’s getting messages from American pop star, Nicki Minaj. He revealed this in a recent interview with Moet Abebe of SoundCity. It’s crazy how I keep getting DMs from Nicki Minaj – Skales.
According to him, after his feature on Major Lazer‘s track, ‘Run Up’, he and the American rapper, Nicki Minaj have been talking. Skales went further to discuss his planned collabo with Nicki Minaj.

Recall that ‘Run Up’ was first released in January 2017 featuring Nicki Minaj and PartyNextDoor while a remix was done months later featuring Skales, Yung L and Chopstix.
In case you missed how the two artistes hooked up: In May, Skales dropped a song featuring American rapper Diplo, and as usual, he shared the links of the music video on his pages.
Shortly after, Nicki Minaj promoted the song on her Instagram, introducing the Nigerian singer to her 80 million fans. Here’s what she wrote on her page Barbie® (@nickiminaj) on May 15, 2017 at 3:47pm PDT: #RunUp Afrosmash REMIX @majorlazer @diplo @yunglmrmarley @youngskales @dchopstix #Nigeria represent.
An excited Skales thanked Nicki Minaj for the kind gesture, and now, he claims they have become close friends, such that they now exchange private messages.

In this interview with SoundCity, Skales said: “It’s still crazy to me how I keep getting DMs from her. Nevertheless, I can never give props to anybody else than Diplo of Major Lazer.
However, he still acknowledges Diplo, saying that he was able to earn this level in his career after working with Diplo and for connecting the two of them, and for giving him the beat that made Nicki take notice.

Speaking further, he said, “It was Diplo that hooked us up and he’s the reason why I can communicate with her and share my sound.
“She is working on her album and she spoke to me. It’s still crazy to me that super stars like them reach out to people like me. She asks me to send her my music, she wants to know what’s up with me but I can never ever give credit to anybody else than Diplo.”
Well, as it is, it would seem Nicki Minaj is making overtures to Nigerian artistes.
This is just as she recently shared a photo of she and Wizkid on Instagram which led fans to believe a collabo could be on the way any time soon.
