
Veteran stand up comedian, Ali Baba has declared his intention to run for 2019 Bayelsa State Governorship. He made this known via his Instagram page, although many fans have been left speechless over his post. We all know Ali Baba as a comedian and most fans say they are confused as this could be one of his jokes. Comedian Ali Baba ventures into politics.
Here is what he wrote: “ALIBABAGCFRI HEREBY DECLARE MY INTEREST TO RUN FOR THE GUBERNATORIAL SEAT OF BAYELSA STATE…. #ROLLBACKMALARIA2019.”
It seems Nigerian entertainers are venturing into politics in a large number. The likes of popular singer, 9ice, in 2015, was appointed as the Special Adviser to the Governor of Oyo state, Abiola Ajimobi. The ‘Alapkomeji’ crooner joined All Progressives Congress, APC and contested for the ticket of the party for the Ogbomosho Federal Constituency but was defeated at the primaries. He however recently made it known he was dumping politics to pursue his music career squarely. Also, in the 11 April 2015 General Elections, popular actor, Desmond Elliot was elected as a lawmaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Surulere Constituency. Elliot won his bid defeating Bayo Smith, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Comedian Ali Baba ventures into politics
As Ali Baba has decided to join the league of the duo and many others, we can only wish him the best in his pursuits. The 51-year-old comedian cum politician was born in Warri, Delta State. Ali Baba studied Religious Studies & Philosophy in the then Bendel State University, Ekpoma in 1990. He began his professional comedy career with corporate events, appearing on television shows with the likes of Patrick Doyle, Charly Boy and Danladi Bako. The comedian also made cameo appearances on radio shows with Bisi Olatilo, Sani Irabor and Mani Onumonmu. He also worked briefly with Dapo Adelegan of DP Lekki Limited as executive assistant in 1991.

Ali Baba is like a godfather in the comedy industry as he has supported, mentored and presented several comedians helping to ensure that standards are maintained and professionalism encouraged. The ‘Father of Comedy’ as he is fondly called, has been a professional stand up comedian for the past 22 years and has in the last 13 years received several awards.
