Heineken Silver Beer Launched in the Metaverse as a Joke
-
Heineken announced on Thursday that it had launched its first virtual beer, Heineken Silver on the Decentraland platform

The beer launch however turned out to be an “ironic joke” as the company poked fun at brands jumping into the metaverse
-
According to the Global Head of the Heineken brand, Bram Westenbrink, some products are “best enjoyed in the real world”
Everyone wants to join the metaverse, with most companies launching products for the virtual world over the past few months. Leading beer brand, Heineken however believes that not all products are meant for the metaverse.
The company poked fun at itself and other top brands joining the metaverse on Thursday with the launch of its virtual beer, Heineken Silver. A virtual beer sounds dumb right? and that is the ironic joke.
In a post that accompanied the announcement, the company wrote:
“Our virtual beer is made only from the freshest pixels: no malt, no hops, no yeast, no water, and also no beer”
The company’s Global Head, Bram Westenbrink also weighed in, saying that while some products can be enjoyed in the metaverse, the virtual world “is not the best place to taste a new beer.”
He adds:
“Our new virtual beer is an ironic joke. It is a self-aware idea that pokes fun at us and many other brands that are jumping into the metaverse with products that are best enjoyed in the real world”
Since Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg announced that his company was developing a virtual metaverse world, more brands have been trying to position themselves by launching products for the metaverse.
Some of the top brands to have launched products and services for the virtual world include Nike, Hyundai, HSBC bank and Roblox.
