Elon Musk Provides Starlink Internet Service to Ukraine Amid Russian Invasion

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk disclosed on Saturday that Starlink’s satellite internet service has been activated in Ukraine. The internet connectivity will aid communication in Ukraine following disruptions that have been caused by the war.

The tech giant’s decision to lend his internet to the embattled country came a few hours after he was urged by a Ukrainian official to do so. Ukraine’s Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov took to Twitter on Saturday morning to ask Musk to provide Starlink services to Ukraine.

On Saturday, Internet monitor NetBlock reported that Ukraine was suffering a series of disruptions in its internet service, after the Russian military operations in the country.

Federov also demanded that the billionaire should “address sane Russians to stand” against the government’s invasion.

Starlink operates a constellation of more than 2,000 satellites in the earth’s orbit. The company aims to provide internet access across the world and on Friday announced the launch of 50 new satellites, with many more expected.
