Elon Musk Threatens to Launch Social Media Rival to Twitter

Tesla chief executive officer, Elon Musk has disclosed that he is giving thoughts to the launch of his own social media platform that will rival Twitter. The Billionaire divulged this in a tweet on Saturday while claiming that Twitter has failed to adhere to the principle of free speech.

His tweet over the weekend reads:

“Given that Twitter serves as the de facto public town square, failing to adhere to free speech principles fundamentally undermines democracy. What should be done?”

He then added a follow-up tweet asking if a new platform is needed.

This comes after the billionaire put up a poll on Friday, March 26, asking if free speech is essential to a functioning democracy and if Twitter adheres to the free speech principle. There were over 2,000,000 votes and the majority (70%) voted “No”.

In a reply to Pranay Pathole, the Tesla boss said that he was giving serious thought to branching out and setting up his own social media platform that would prioritise free speech.

Although Elon Musk is a frequent user of Twitter, the world’s richest man has been voicing his discontent about the platform lately, especially regarding situations adjudged to be free speech violations.
