Plane Crash in China: Boeing 737 Crashes Into Mountains With 133 People Onboard

  • A Boeing 737 jetliner carrying more than 133 people has crashed into mountains in China
  • Chinese media reports that the plane was flying from Kunming to Guangzhou when it had an accident over Guangxi
  • Rescue mission is underway but the number of casualties from the plane crash remains unknown

A Boeing 737 aeroplane carrying 133 people has crashed in the mountains in China’s Guangxi a few minutes ago, according to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.

CCTV reports that rescue teams are en route to the accident scene and fire was visible on the crash site.

This comes after a China Eastern Airlines flight MU5735 going from Kunming to Guangzhou went missing earlier in the day.

The Guangxi Emergency Management Department also said in a statement:

“A Boeing 737 passenger plane carrying 133 people from China Eastern Airlines crashed in Teng County, Wuzhou, Guangxi, and caused a mountain fire.”

Playback videos of the accident can be seen on social media where the plane fell from a height of 30,000 feats in less than 2 minutes.

Following the announcement of the plane crash, Boeing shares have taken a nosedive, losing more than 6%.
