California has announced the prohibition of the removal of a condom during sex without a partner’s consent.
The new bill against sexual crime called “stealthing” was signed into law by California Governor Gavin Newsom on Thursday.
The bill which was sponsored by Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia passed the Senate and Assembly in September.
Garcia termed the removal of a condom during sex a sexual assault and claimed that it was prevalent main women of color.
She cited a study by Yale University that showed that cases of stealthing affecting women and gay men were on the rise.
What is Stealthing?
Stealthing is the act of a man removing the condom discreetly during sexual intercourse with his partner.

The act has been frowned on because it puts victims at risk of sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies.
Purposefully damaging a condom before sex can also be termed as stealthing.
