Nigeria vs Ghana: Pandemonium as CAF Doctor Dies After Fans Invaded Stadium

Nigeria will not be playing at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after the country got knocked out by neighbour, Ghana, in its own backyard.

Although the Super Eagles played out a 1-1 draw with the Black Stars of Ghana, the team was eliminated via the away goal rule. Adding further misery to the country’s plight, a death has also been confirmed as a result of the match.

A doping doctor of the Confederation of Africa Football, Dr. Joseph Kabungo is reported to have died shortly after Nigeria vs Ghana match.

Some reports indicate that Kabungo died due to a stampede that occurred that the Moshood Abiola Stadium before the match started. Others claim that the CAF official was injured during fans’ invasion of the pitch after Nigeria’s loss.

The Zambia Federation has confirmed that death and the president of the FA, Andrew Kamanga offered his condolences to the medical officer’s family.

 

Joseph Kabungo

Dr. Kabungo was a medical officer on duty during the second leg of the qualifying match in Abuja. The deceased who is a former Mufulira Wanderers goalkeeper also previously served as Chongwe and Siavonga medical officer.
