Liverpool Legend Steven Gerrard Appointed as Aston Villa Manager

  • Steven Gerrard has been appointed the head coach of English football club Aston Villa
  • The former England and Liverpool midfielder is coming in as a replacement for recently sacked Dean Smit
  • Gerrard is joining from Scottish champions Rangers where he has been the manager since June 2018

Steven Gerrard has been confirmed as the new manager of Aston Villa football club after leaving Rangers.

The former Liverpool Captain replaces Dean Smith who was recently relieved of his job after 5 consecutive defeats.

Gerrard began his managerial career at Rangers in June 2018, where he won the Scottish Premiership last season.

He exits with the team top of the table as they prepare for a League Cup semi-final match against Hibernian.

Aston Villa is current on 16th on the premier league table, only two points above the relegation zone.

Steven Gerrard’s first game in charge will be against Brighton at home on Saturday next week.

Here is what the gaffer had to say after signing:

“Aston Villa is a club with a rich history and tradition in English football and I am immensely proud to become its new head coach. In my conversations with [the owners] Nassef [Sawiris], Wes [Edens], and the rest of the board, it was apparent how ambitious their plans are for the club and I am looking forward to helping them achieve their aims.”

Steven Gerrard also expressed his gratitude to all members of the club for the opportunity to manage the team.

As a player, Steven Gerrard spent 15 years playing for Liverpool’s senior team before leaving for LA Galaxy in 2016.
