There had been much speculation about either Ten Hag or Mauricio Pochettino coming into the club since the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last year and United has decided to settle for the Ajax boss.

Sky Sports reports that Manchester United will pay Ajax a compensation below £2 million, while the 52-year-old has signed a three-year deal with an option to extend for a further 12 months.

According to United’s website, Ten Hag said:

“It is a great honour to be appointed manager of Manchester United and I am hugely excited by the challenge ahead.”

However, he claimed that leaving Ajax will be a difficult decision and he is committed to offering his complete commitment till the end of the season.

Manchester United is also expected to snatch Erik ten Hag’s assistant, Mitchell van der Gaag away from Ajax, and advanced negotiations are underway already.

Edwin van der Sar

The good relationship between United and Ajax is believed to have helped ease the appointment process of Ten Hag.

Edwin van der Sar, a former Manchester United goalkeeper who serves as Ajax’s chief executive disclosed that he would have loved to have kept Ten Hag for longer, but he couldn’t stop him from making the big move.
