The Billboard Music Awards have released the list of finalists in all categories for the 2021 awards. We can all save our tears for another day as The Weeknd emerges finalist in 16 categories. This follows an unexpected snub by the Grammys this year. He is up for the top artist, top billboard 200 artist, top 100 artists, top streaming songs artists, top song sales artist, top radio songs artist, top R&B artist, and 9 other categories.
DaBaby also shows up 11 times across nine categories. He vies against The Weeknd for the top hot 100 artists, top streaming songs, among others categories.
Meanwhile, 21-year-old country singer Gabby Barrett features in nine categories, the highest for a female artist. She is also in the race for the top new artist. The other artists in this category include Doja Cat, Rod Wave, Jack Harlow and the late Pop Smoke.
The big controversy comes with Morgan Wallen, who features as a finalist across five categories with six mentions. The country singer will not be coming up at the awards this May for using a racist slur. The star was caught in a video using the N-word in a video with his friends on February 2.
As always, the Billboard Music Awards will be based on how well the song performs, using key fan interactions like records and digital sales, song streaming, radio airing and social engagements.
Who wins what at this year’s Billboard Music Awards? We will find out on May 23.
