Music streaming giant, Spotify has revealed that Nigeria is the country with the second most musical streams on its platform since it became available in the country.
The company’s Sub-Saharan African Head of Music, Phiona Okumu disclosed this during a media chat in Lagos on Thursday. She revealed that since Spotify was introduced to Nigeria, only Pakistan has managed to garner more streams among countries.
Okuma also disclosed that 20,935 songs have been added by Nigerian creators since its market entry. Another amazing stat shows that among the top 10 exported songs from the country, 9 are international collaborations between local and international artists. This indicates that Nigerian music has been getting more attention from other countries.

Spotify also disclosed that 30% of Nigerian Alte music is being streamed in the United States, a growth of more than 200% from the last year. The same applies to Afropop songs from Nigeria, which have garnered 40% more streams in the USA, the UK, and France.
Meanwhile, Okumu also stated that Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tems, and Mr. Eazi are among Nigeria’s biggest exports globally as their songs have gathered more streams in other countries since Spotify’s introduction to Nigeria.
