American actor Jussie Smollett has been sentenced to 150 days in prison after a jury found him guilty of lying to the police about being a victim of a hate crime.
The former Empire star was found guilty of disorderly conduct in December after it was discovered that he orchestrated a fake attack against himself.
The sentence also includes 30 months of probation and $145,000 in restitution and fines.
Despite the sentence, the 39-year-old maintained his stance that he was not guilty of the crime, saying “I did not do this”.
The trial sentence wraps up the incident from January 2019, when Jussie Smollett claimed that he was attacked by two male assailants. The actor said that the attackers hurled slurs at him and poured a chemical substance on him when he was taking a night walk.
Authorities began an investigation into the incident and in February of the same year alleged that the actor had staged the assault.

Brothers Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo testified in the court that Smollett orchestrated the attack and paid that $3,500 to carry it out
