-
In a EndSARS white paper released by the government on Tuesday, it claimed that no explanation was given regarding the finding of nine deaths at LTG
-
The government, therefore, decline the recommendation that a monument memorializing the killed and injured at LTG with their names be created
Yesterday, the Lagos state government rejected the report of the judicial panel of inquiry that there was a massacre in Lekki Toll Gate on October 20th, 2020.
In a EndSARS white paper released on Tuesday, the government claimed that the Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Restitution of Victims failed to establish the killing of the protesters.
A part of the white paper released, it claimed that the panel’s findings are
“clearly and manifestly not supported by the evidence before the JPI as attested to by the JPI itself, when it said there was no contrary evidence to that of Prof. Obafunwa that only one person died at Lekki Toll Gate of gunshot wounds on 21st October 2020”.
The government, therefore, stated that it is unable to accept the judicial panel’s findings that nine people died of gunshot wounds at the Lekki Toll Gate.
The EndSARS white paper also stated that the report that stated that 9 people died at the LTG is based on assumptions and speculations.

Out of 32 recommendations made by the judicial panel in its report, the government accepted 11, rejected 1, and agreed to accept 6 with modifications.
14 of the recommendations however fall out of the power of the Lagos state government and will be forwarded to the Federal Government.
