North Korea has reportedly sentenced a school student to 14 years in prison after he was caught watching a South Korean movie.
The 14-year-old was arrested on November 7 when authorities found that he had watched “The Uncle”, a mystery drama short film.
According to Daily Mail, the imprisoned student was from Hyesan City’s Elementary and Middle School.
The report claims that they were arrested 5 minutes into the movie and given the lengthy sentence with hard labour.
The report also claims that the parent of the student may also be punished for the crime by association.
Under the country’s laws, parents can be fined up to 200000 for irresponsible education. However, residents fear that they could be sent to a political prison camp.

Under North Korea’s law, anyone who owns a South Korean film for more than 5 years and less than 15 years or is caught watching one will be punished by correctional labor.
It is reported that South Korean movies are becoming increasingly popular in the country and authorities are trying to counter this.
