Nigeria’s eNaira App Hits 694,000 Downloads in 3 Months

  • The eNaira app for the digital currency issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria has hit 694,000 downloads, 95 days after it was launched
  • Sources revealed that 136,000 of the total transactions were on iOS devices, while 558,000 on the installs were on Android OS

The eNaira app, which was released along with the issuance of the digital currency by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has amassed 690,000 downloads, 95 days after it was launched. The milestone was confirmed by sources in the apex bank, according to Nairametrics.

The information gathered also revealed that the eNaira recorded less than 10% in p2p transactions, with Person to Bank and Bank to Person constituting 90% of transactions on the platform.


The milestone is hit just over 3 months after the CBN launched Nigeria’s CBDC as an equivalent of the Naira.
According to the source, the application was mostly downloaded on Android OS devices, where 558,000 were recorded. On iOS, 136,downloads totalled at 136,000.

In terms of customer wallet downloads, Guaranty Trust Bank led with 33% of the total while Ecobank led with 22% of the total for merchant wallet downloads.

The stats also revealed that the app was downloaded across, Australia, North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and Africa, indicating global usage of Nigeria’s CBDC.
