El Salvador Continues Bitcoin Buying Spree With 21 BTC Purchase

  • El Salvador has purchased another 21 Bitcoin to celebrate “the last 21st day of the year 21 of the 21st century,”
  • President Nayib Bukele announced the purchase of the BTC on Twitter on Tuesday
  • The latest investment in the flagship cryptocurrency takes the Central America’s portfolio to 1,391 bitcoins

On Tuesday night, Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele announced that the country had purchased more Bitcoin.

His announcement which was made on Twitter reads:

“Today is the last 21st day of the year 21 of the 21st century. At 21:00 hours … We are buying 21 bitcoin for the occasion. I’m holding the purchase till 21:21:21.”

He went ahead to post a series of receipts that confirmed the purchase of the total coins.

According to Bukele, the coins were purchased to celebrate “the last 21st day of the year 21 of the 21st century,”

El Salvador has been buying Bitcoin in bulk since signing it into law as its legal tender in September this year.

Before the law was officially registered the country had bought 700 BTC, then more purchases were made to take the country’s total holdings to 1,370 BTC.

The country has also signaled its intent to build a bitcoin city that will be powered by a volcano.
