Cryptocurrency scams have become very rampant as more people become accustomed to the use of the digital assets.
The latest victim of a bitcoin scam is a 27-year-old woman from Guelph Canada who received a phone call from a scammer.
The scammer claimed to be from the Canada Border Services Agency and stated that a package had been received with her name on it.
The caller threatened that she would be arrested unless she paid a fine of $8,050 using Bitcoin.
Worried about the consequences, the victim went to a nearby Bitcoin ATM and deposited $7,750.
She however became suspicious that he may be a scammer and refused to send the balance.

She has since reported to the police but the number used by the victim to perpetrate the act has since been disabled.
The police have also disclosed that it may be impossible to recover the funds since cryptocurrencies are almost impossible to trace.
