The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested an alleged fraudster named Precious Ofure Omonkho for a Bitcoin scam.
According to a statement released by the anti-graft agency through its website, Omonkho was arrested on Monday, November 8 after intel was received about his activities.
The report claims that the suspect posed as a Swedish national and convinced people to invest with the promise of significant returns.
In addition to that, the EFCC’s investigations also show that Omonkho defrauded two Canadians in a dating scam.
After his arrest, the suspected fraudster revealed that he had laundered $150,000 from the proceeds of the Bitcoin scam by buying a piece of land.

Omonkhoa laundered the funds through bitcoin from CASA-Cubana, a project run by the Cubana group.
The Cubana group mentioned in relation to the suspect is a company owned by one of Nigeria’s top businessmen, Obi Cubana.
Upon Omonkhoa’s arrest, $50,000 was found in his Bitcoin wallet and the EFCC is set to charge him to court in the coming weeks.
