The Nigerian government has announced plans to delay the production of the country’s own COVID vaccine.

The Minister of Health Osagie Ehanire stated although the country has the approved funds intact, it still faced some major hindrance in the production of the vaccine.
The government will continue discussing with local firms to secure a partnership for the production of the vaccine.

At present, Nigeria does not have the required technology for vaccine production.
Osagie Ehanire however stated that it might take some time to get the appropriate vaccine for both COVID and other vaccines.
So far, the government has dedicated $26 million (10 billion Naira) to support COVID-19 vaccine production.

Nigeria has received 4 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine and an additional 12 million doses are expected in the coming weeks.
