The federal government of Nigeria has faulted the United Kingdom for red listing the country amid the rising cases of Omicron COVID 19 variant.
Osagie Ehanire, Minister of Health made this statement during an interview on Channels TV on Sunday evening.
Osagie stated that a common approach is required by countries globally to fight the new variants of COVID 19.
“I believe all countries should come together to take a common approach, and that includes the UK and other countries that are contemplating Red Lists and so on.
The minister also stated that Nigeria will increase sequencing of cases but so far, the country has not recorded a dramatic increase in COVID 19 infection.
Osagie also urged that countries should not be in a hurry to put others on a red list but rather take a clinical and surgical approach to it.

The minister’s statement comes a few days after the united kingdom imposed a travel ban on citizens of Nigeria.
That adds to travel bans that have been placed by Singapore and Canada, following the discovery of the new strain of the virus.
